Description
During the fall of 2020, a six-member group of faculty and students met weekly to discuss readings on the intersection of anti-racism and music education so as to better understand how principles of anti-racism can be put into practice within the Department of Music. From these discussions, the working group identified specific policy and procedural changes in the areas of curriculum, admissions, and recruitment which the Department can take to better serve our current and prospective students of color. In a 10-page report, the working group made recommendations to the department and articulated a number of “next steps” for continuing our goal of identifying actions we can take to pursue anti-racism and anti-bias as a department.
